Dealing with that frizz

June 21, 2017

Is your hair curly? straight? thin? wavy? thick?

Frizz can hit you at any time of the year.. unfortunately.. whether its due to the humidity in the air, the dryness in the air or your hair is just naturally a frizz ball. But first before you grab your hat or beanie, think about your daily hair routine and what products your using!

Start in the shower, what shampoo and conditioner are you using? Your shower routine is key to dealing with frizz. If your using a shampoo and conditioner thats not suited for your hair type your hair won't sit right.

When your hair has a natural frizz that needs to be tamed you need to look for product to

control it. To maintain frizz you need to get a professional hydrating shampoo and conditioner to add back the moisture and into your hair.

Frizzy curly hair?

As curly hair is naturally dry it needs more hydrating than normal hair but don't just go and grab the heaviest shampoo and conditioner you can find, you need to assess your hair, is it thin or thick? If you have thick hair you need a heavy rich shampoo and conditioner as well as a heavy cream or serum to add weight to the hair. If you have medium to thin hair your need a medium hydrating shampoo that nourishes your hair as well  as medium-light cream or oil so it doesn't weigh your hair down to much and make it look limp or not curl as well. Most curling products have a de-frizzing property in them which can be enough for medium-fine hair to but not for thick hair as it won't be heavy enough. Curling products for thick hair needs to be mixed with a serum or moisturising lotion to make a cocktail of product which allows the curl be activated and frizz to be maintained.

Frizzy Straight Hair?

When dealing with straight or wavy hair you need to assess whether its thick or thin. If you don't want body in your hair a heavy shampoo and conditioner can work for you even if its thin, you just have to be careful if you have a naturally oily scalp otherwise use a medium weighted shampoo and conditioner. For styling if you have thick hair you can use a heavy serum and a shine spray to finish off your look but if you have thin hair a non oil based shine spray may be enough or a humidity blocking spray for extra protection against moisture in the air.

Styling Curly

With over 65% of the worlds population having curly hair more and more clients are wanting to try a more relaxed approach to hair styling therefore having the tools and products to achieve this are becoming more prevalent. And with many of us styling hair straight for many years our natural curls are having an identity crisis - meaning some straight bits, some curly bits and some I don't know what bits. This is why giving that hair a little break from the straightener every once in a while is a vital step for controlling frizz.

Olaplex is great for reviving curls. It can be used as a stand alone in salon treatment but is really effective when a small amount No.3 is used and left in the hair prior to applying styling products.

Kevin.Murphy Killer Curls or Motion Lotion for curl formation. Both have styling aid and moisturising properties.

GHD Total Volume Foam for hold. This styling product is none sticky, is great for full bouncy curls and really nice mixed with a leave in conditioner.

Kevin.Murphy Leave-In.Repair is a lightweight leave in treatment that works well for fine or medium hair as it is weightless. It is really nice with a styling aid, we especially love it with Killer.Curls.
